In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Brevard worked at Finocchio's drag revue as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator; a trans co-worker, Stormy, helped her to begin transitioning. She lived at the edge of the Tenderloin, and although she was not a central part of the trans community there, she felt more comfortable there than elsewhere. Stryker interviews Brevard about her early drag career, her transition, and the bars and venues where she spent time. This includes extensive attention to the culture and working conditions at Finocchio's. She discussed her coming out process as well as her experiences as a budding activist in ACT UP and a branch of ACT UP, called The Pissed Off Dyke Cell. Erica talked significantly about her previous relationships and how those connections shaped her activism as well as how her activism shaped her relationships. She spent the second half of the interview discussing her interests and passions for activism in this time of her life, her teaching and her ice skating. Erica also focused on her involvement, both personally and professionally with discovering and expressing sexual desire through her own journey with partners and her work with Salacious which is a She joined Spirit of the Lakes Church, now Living Table United Church of Christ, and then proceeded to hold multiple leadership positions in the UCC, including on the LGBT Coalition, and the Executive Council, and at the time of the interview was Deputy Faith Work Director for the National LGBTQ Task Force. She talks about her work starting GLBT Generations to address the issues older LGBT people face, and was instrumental in opening the Spirit on Lake apartment building in 2013, and Clare Housing. She believes in the importance of building bridges to LGB groups to become more inclusive of trans issues, and she started the first Trans Day of Remembrance in the Twin
