She joined occupations and building take-overs organized by students and campus workers fighting budget cuts, joined Occupy and Black Lives Matter protests, and helped found a left caucus that came to power in the graduate workers local of the University of California system. Through that caucus and union, Armstrong came to lead a campaign that successfully won access to all-gender bathrooms for UC students and workers. Armstrong also discusses her growing up in Pennsylvania, her intellectual development as a historian, and her inducing lactation as a trans woman and In 1991, Bradley moved to California. When he volunteered his design skills at an AIDS fundraiser, a local designer recognized Bradley’s talent and put him to work. Bradley quickly developed his own company, with clients ranging from Elton John to Barbra Streisand. In 2016, after 25 years in California, Bradley bought 40 acres in Meally, Kentucky, and moved back to be near his family. While mostly taking life a little easier now, Bradley continues to coordinate parties and events, and still dresses in drag on Though she encountered a progressiveness in various ways within the religious communities she was part of her in childhood, the fact that she was gender-questioning ultimately alienated her from the church. An important part of her socialization took place online, in the Myspace, DeviantArt, Twitch websites where she felt she had more control over interactions than IRL, especially if they became abusive due to her being a trans woman. Elsie speaks frankly about struggles that she has had both in school and her romantic history, as a sexual assault took its toll on both of those spheres in her life. She also talks briefly about her medical transition as a process that lead to her feeling more herself on estrogen than testosterone. Toward the end of the interview, Elsie connects her own empowerment and political development both to instances of police brutality that Black Lives Matter has foregrounded for the country, as well as her time studying at NYU and being involved in Geek Feminism Wiki, reading third wave feminist theory and reacting to
