At the time of this interview, she was serving as the Executive Director of Peter's Place, a recovery organization and halfway house in Richmond centered on the needs of LGBTQ+ people in recovery, especially Black and Brown trans people, slated to open in fall of 2020. In this oral history interview, Hammonds discusses her experiences as a Black trans woman in recovery spaces and organizations during the past five years, her thoughts on racism and transphobia within the LGBTQ+ community, representation and violence against Black and Brown trans women, and the need for more supportive recovery spaces for Black and Brown trans people.
