At the time of this interview, they were the Director of Forensics at Macalester College, where they directed and coached the mock trial, ethics bowl, and debate teams. Prior to their work at Macalester, Larsen was a graduate student and debate coach at Wake Forest University, having previously been an adjunct debate coach at the University of Puget Sound and a member of the University of Southern California's undergraduate debate team. In this oral history interview with Macalester College students Maddie Rodriguez and Ruben Schneiderman, Larsen discusses their entry into forensics through high school debate, their time competing in undergraduate debate at USC with Aron Berger, their current forensics work at Macalester, and their political, theoretical, and scholarly interests and influences at length, as well as the impacts of those political theories on debate itself. Specifically, they discuss their engagements with queer theory, trans theory, sex work theory, and Black feminism and Afropessimism and how those strands have impacted the world of competitive debate, their thoughts on their mentors, being non-binary and trans in the debate world, and the interactions between queer and trans theory and sex work, and their master's thesis and upcoming book project."],"mime_type_tesim":["image/jpeg"],"resource_type_tesim":["Moving image","Text"],"creator_tesim":["Larsen, Beau"],"creator_ssim":["Larsen, Beau"],"contributor_tesim":["Billund-Phibbs, Myra","Rodriguez, Maddie","Schneiderman, Ruben"],"contributor_ssim":["Billund-Phibbs, Myra","Rodriguez, Maddie","Schneiderman, Ruben"],"rights_tesim":["Copyright undetermined"],"publisher_tesim":["University of Minnesota Minneapolis Libraries"],"publisher_ssim":["University of Minnesota Minneapolis Libraries"],"language_tesim":["http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/iso639-2/eng"],"based_near_tesim":["http://www.geonames.org/5045360"],"based_near_ssim":["http://www.geonames.org/5045360"],"isPartOf_ssim":["5q47rn87k"],"isMemberOf_ssim":["vq27zn49p"],"genre_tesim":["Oral Histories","Transcriptions"],"genre_ssim":["Oral Histories","Transcriptions"],"flagged_tesim":["No explicit content"],"lcsh_subject_tesim":["http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85050563"],"lcsh_subject_ssim":["http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85050563"],"other_subject_tesim":["ONE Archives"],"other_subject_ssim":["ONE Archives"],"dta_other_subject_tesim":["ONE Archives"],"dta_subject_primary_searchable_tesim":["Feminism","Femmes","Forensics (Public speaking)","Genderqueer people","Non-binary people","Queer theory","Sex work","White transgender people","ONE Archives"],"dta_subject_alt_searchable_tesim":["Caucasian transgender people","Transgender Caucasian people","Transgender white people","Prostitution","Argumentation"],"date_start_dtsi":"2021-01-01T00:00:00Z","date_end_dtsi":"2021-01-01T00:00:00Z","date_created_search_ssim":["Nov November 20, 2021"],"is_shown_at_tesim":["https://umedia.lib.umn.edu/item/p16022coll97:252"],"is_shown_at_ssim":["https://umedia.lib.umn.edu/item/p16022coll97:252"],"hosted_elsewhere_ssi":"1","language_label_ssim":["English"],"subject_geojson_facet_ssim":["{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Point\",\"coordinates\":[\"-93.09327\",\"44.94441\"]},\"properties\":{\"placename\":\"Saint Paul\"}}"],"subject_coordinates_geospatial":["44.94441,-93.09327"],"subject_geographic_hier_ssim":["Minnesota||Ramsey County||City of Saint Paul||Saint Paul"],"subject_geographic_ssim":["Saint Paul","Minnesota","Ramsey County","City of Saint Paul","United States"],"subject_geographic_tesim":["Saint Paul","Minnesota","Ramsey County","City of Saint Paul","United States"],"has_thumbnail_ssi":"true","blacklight_display_ssi":"generic_file","has_file_content_ssi":"true","_version_":1860198605361512448,"timestamp":"2026-03-20T16:20:33.348Z","score":1.0},{"id":"7h149q16q","system_create_dtsi":"2022-11-08T23:07:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-03-19T23:13:42Z","date_uploaded_dtsi":"2022-11-08T23:07:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2022-11-08T23:07:17Z","model_ssi":"GenericFile","has_model_ssim":["GenericFile"],"date_created_tesim":["2022-11-08"],"date_created_ssim":["2022-11-08"],"visibility_ssi":"public","new_model_ssi":"GenericObject","dta_all_subject_ssim":["Choreographers","Dancers","Gender roles","Non-binary people","White transgender people"],"dta_homosaurus_subject_ssim":["Gender roles","Non-binary people","White transgender people"],"dta_lcsh_subject_ssim":["Choreographers","Dancers"],"date_created_search_tesim":["Nov November 11, 2021"],"date_created_display_ssim":["Nov. 11, 2021"],"dta_dates_ssim":["2021"],"dta_sortable_date_dtsi":"2021-11-11T00:00:00Z","ident_tesi":"7h149q16q","identifier_ssim":["7h149q16q"],"collection_name_ssim":["Audio and Video Clips and Transcripts"],"institution_name_ssim":["Jean-Nickolaus Tretter Collection, University of Minnesota"],"primary_institution_ssi":"Jean-Nickolaus Tretter Collection, University of Minnesota","depositor_ssim":["arona.s@northeastern.edu"],"depository_tesim":["arona.s@northeastern.edu"],"title_tesim":["Interview with Canyon Carballosa"],"title_ssim":["Interview with Canyon Carballosa"],"label_tesim":["Interview with Canyon Carballosa"],"description_tesim":["An interview with Canyon Carballosa, a white Cuban queer trans nonbinary dancer and movement maker based in Los Angeles.
