She recognized she was bisexual in her early teens. Her family was accepting of her sexuality very early on. Before enlisted in the military in her early twenties, she married her first wife, Helga. Due to mental health issues, Helga and Antoinette divorced. Antoinette then married her second wife, Emily, and went on to have two children.\r\n\r\nIt was not until Antoinette was divorced from Emily that she started dressing as a woman. In her early fifties she had a conversation with Jean Vermette that first gave language to Antoinette; transgender. This language molded her own version of her gender. language. \r\n\r\nA comprehensive file of clippings from Felicia Elizondo's life experiences as a queer trans Mexican-American. She was bullied in her youth and then went on to join the U.S. Navy. but was dishonorably discharged after coming out as gay. These files detail her experiences as an HIV/AIDS survivor and activist, fundraising through drag performances. She was also recognized by former president Barack Obama for her services to the transgender community, especially in the Tenderloin. Also included are images of Felicia in slideshow format. Like many autobiographical fragments in Elizondo's collection, this material consists of isolated pages from published and unpublished sources which were found together.\r\n\r\nThis item comes from the Felicia “Flames” Elizondo papers (#2021-06) at the GLBT Historical Society. Felicia Elizondo, who performed as Felicia Flames, was a Chicana trans woman and drag queen associated with San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood. She was a regular at Gene Compton's Cafeteria at the time of the Compton's Cafeteria Riot, a historic 1966 uprising by trans and queer people. Elizondo performed for many years at Aunt Charlie's Lounge alongside her close friend Vicki Marlane. This collection contains Elizondo's writings, photographs of her and her community, ephemera she collected about local drag and queer topics, and materials about Marlane and her legacy."],"mime_type_tesim":["application/pdf"],"resource_type_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Elizondo, Felicia"],"creator_ssim":["Elizondo, Felicia"],"rights_tesim":["In copyright"],"language_tesim":["http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/iso639-2/eng"],"based_near_tesim":["http://www.geonames.org/5392171","http://www.geonames.org/12217947","http://www.geonames.org/5530022","http://www.geonames.org/5393021"],"based_near_ssim":["http://www.geonames.org/5392171","http://www.geonames.org/12217947","http://www.geonames.org/5530022","http://www.geonames.org/5393021"],"isPartOf_ssim":["xs55mc49j"],"isMemberOf_ssim":["b91dbe86-4192-4c77-b1fc-d1c323b21c8b"],"date_issued_tesim":["2010~/2021"],"genre_tesim":["Autobiographies"],"genre_ssim":["Autobiographies"],"flagged_tesim":["No explicit content"],"other_subject_tesim":["Compton's Cafeteria Riots"],"other_subject_ssim":["Compton's Cafeteria Riots"],"dta_other_subject_tesim":["Compton's Cafeteria Riots"],"dta_subject_primary_searchable_tesim":["Chicano/a/x LGBTQ+ people","Chicano/a/x transgender people","Drag queens","Latino/a/x LGBTQ+ people","Latino/a/x transgender people","Trans women","Transgender people in the military","Compton's Cafeteria Riots"],"date_start_dtsi":"2010-01-01T00:00:00Z","date_end_dtsi":"2021-01-01T00:00:00Z","date_issued_search_ssim":["circa 2010 to 2021"],"hosted_elsewhere_ssi":"0","language_label_ssim":["English"],"subject_geojson_facet_ssim":["{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Point\",\"coordinates\":[\"-121.89496\",\"37.33939\"]},\"properties\":{\"placename\":\"San Jose\"}}","{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Point\",\"coordinates\":[\"-122.41744\",\"37.78394\"]},\"properties\":{\"placename\":\"Tenderloin\"}}","{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Point\",\"coordinates\":[\"-100.43704\",\"31.46377\"]},\"properties\":{\"placename\":\"San Angelo\"}}","{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Point\",\"coordinates\":[\"-121.69627\",\"37.23249\"]},\"properties\":{\"placename\":\"Santa Clara\"}}"],"subject_coordinates_geospatial":["37.33939,-121.89496","37.78394,-122.41744","31.46377,-100.43704","37.23249,-121.69627"],"subject_geographic_hier_ssim":["California||Santa Clara County||San Jose","California||San Francisco County||Tenderloin","Texas||Tom Green||San Angelo","California||Santa Clara"],"subject_geographic_ssim":["San Jose","California","Santa Clara County","United States","Tenderloin","San Francisco County","San Angelo","Texas","Tom Green","Santa Clara"],"subject_geographic_tesim":["San Jose","California","Santa Clara County","United States","Tenderloin","San Francisco County","San Angelo","Texas","Tom Green","Santa Clara"],"has_thumbnail_ssi":"true","blacklight_display_ssi":"generic_file","has_file_content_ssi":"true","_version_":1862578998296444928,"timestamp":"2026-04-15T22:55:52.953Z","score":1.0},{"id":"bz60cw714","system_create_dtsi":"2024-02-29T17:24:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-03-20T11:54:02Z","date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-02-29T17:24:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-29T17:24:09Z","model_ssi":"GenericFile","has_model_ssim":["GenericFile"],"date_created_tesim":["2024-02-29"],"date_created_ssim":["2024-02-29"],"visibility_ssi":"public","new_model_ssi":"GenericObject","dta_all_subject_ssim":["Asexuality","LGBTQ+ veterans","Mental health care for LGBTQ+ people","Trans women"],"dta_other_subject_ssim":["Crystal Lynne Little","Gulf Gender Alliance"],"dta_homosaurus_subject_ssim":["Asexuality","LGBTQ+ veterans","Mental health care for LGBTQ+ people","Trans women"],"date_created_search_tesim":["Jul July 13, 2017"],"date_temporal_search_tesim":["1957","Jun June 6, 1964"],"date_created_display_ssim":["Jul. 13, 2017"],"date_temporal_display_ssim":["1957","Jun. 6, 1964"],"dta_dates_ssim":["2017"],"dta_sortable_date_dtsi":"2017-07-13T00:00:00Z","ident_tesi":"bz60cw714","identifier_ssim":["bz60cw714"],"collection_name_ssim":["Audio and Video Clips and Transcripts"],"institution_name_ssim":["OUTWORDS"],"primary_institution_ssi":"OUTWORDS","depositor_ssim":["mcintosh.r@northeastern.edu"],"depository_tesim":["mcintosh.r@northeastern.edu"],"title_tesim":["Crystal Lynne Little Oral History"],"title_ssim":["Crystal Lynne Little Oral History"],"label_tesim":["Crystal Lynne Little Oral History"],"description_tesim":["Crystal Little was born in 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and named Charles. Felicia Elizondo, who performed as Felicia Flames, was a Chicana trans woman and drag queen associated with San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood.
