Carter Brown  is a Black trans man, activist, and community organizer from Dallas, Texas. Brown is the founder of Black Transmen, Inc., and served as its Director at the time of this oral history interview. He also works with the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition (BTAC, is highly active in community organizing efforts among Black trans men, and has garnered media attention for his work on employment discrimination against Black transgender people. Diamond Stylz is a Black trans woman, activist, and content creator based in Houston, Texas. At the time of this oral history interview, she was the founder and executive director of Black Trans Women, Inc., as well as being a YouTuber and the creator of Marsha's Plate, a politics and culture podcast. Stylz additionally won a high-profile First Amendment lawsuit against her high school, and was the first transgender woman to attend Jackson State University. In this oral history interview, Brown and Stylz discuss their backgrounds and initial forays into Black trans activism, shared experiences of discrimination, the joys, difficulties, responsibilities, and structural barriers inherent to Black trans community organizing, and their thoughts on visibility, representation, and the future. Specifically, they discuss foundational experiences of employment discrimination and discrimination within educational institutions, the foundings of Black Transmen, Inc. and Black Trans Women, Inc., the limits of trans visibility and representation, the disconnect between the mainstream LGBT movement and Black trans movements, and their visions of a better future for Black trans At the time of this interview, she was Deputy Director of the Trans Justice Funding Project, an organization that distributes grants and other funding to grassroots organizations led by and serving trans communities in the United States. Prior to her work with TJFP, Kapua worked in direct services for trans communities in Hawai'i, starting as a Peer Educator at Kulia Na Mamo, then eventually moving on to become the Transgender Service Manager at the Hawai'i Health \u0026 Harm Reduction Center. In this oral history interview, Kapua discusses her formative experiences in community with other trans women and sex workers in Honolulu as a young adult, the work of her and other trans women in establishing protections for and increasing access to services for trans people in Hawai'i, her work with the Trans Justice Funding Project, and the differences between TJFP's ethics and beliefs and mainstream philanthropic practices. Additionally, she discusses her experiences of incarceration and re-entry, the specifics of the Native Hawaiian māhū identity, movements for land sovereignty and the revival of the Hawaiian language, the history of trans activism, sex worker advocacy, and anti-criminalization work in Hawai'i going back to the 1950s, her political influences, her work in direct services, and community responses to In this oral history interview, Wade discusses her background and initial foray into Black trans organizing, the beginnings of the Black Trans Gender Non-conforming Coalition and Brave Space Alliance in Chicago, her thoughts on Black trans politics, and her perspective on the past and future of trans organizing. Specifically, she discusses her experience of employment discrimination, her introduction into organizing among other Black transgender women, the intersectional organizing philosophy of Brave Space She was also selected as a Victory Empowerment Fellow, which identifies LGBTQ community members who wish to run for office and provides campaign training. In this oral history interview, Moore discusses her community organizing work among Black trans women in New Orleans, her experiences of growing up and living as a Black trans woman in the South, and her thoughts on trans politics, healing justice, and gentrification. Specifically, she details how her early life led her into movement work, the history of mutual aid and community safety among Black trans women in the South, the effects of Hurricane Katrina and gentrification on New Orleans, the need for healing spaces by and for Black trans women, and the changes she's seen in trans politics in the last ten In this oral history interview, Ames discusses his Unitarian Universalist upbringing, values, and rootedness in faith communities; his beginnings in civil disobedience and LGBTQ+ civil rights work following Proposition 8's passage in California; his career as an anti-conversion therapy advocate and director of Trans Lifeline and the importance of work directly assisting queer and trans youth; and the future of LGBTQ+ civil rights litigation in the Trump area. Specifically, he discusses the differences between legislative and litigation strategies; the intricacies of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and its relationship to gender identity, sexual orientation, and sex-based protections; and the Title VII case before the Supreme Court at the time of the interview (Bostock v.
