At the time of this interview, Morgan was the Executive Director of Black and Pink, a nationwide prison abolitionist organization that provides direct services and support to currently and formerly incarcerated LGBTQIA+ people. Prior to her work with Black and Pink, Morgan was an adolescent sexual health educator with the Charles Drew Health Center in Omaha, was the first Black President of Nebraska Pride, and the creator of Nebraska Youth Pride. In this oral history interview, Morgan discusses her upbringing in a tight-knit, historic Black community in North Omaha, her entry into political organizing, community health work, and an abolitionist political consciousness, her time working at the Charles Drew Health Center and how that led her to Black and Pink, and her work as Executive Director. Additionally, she discusses her experiences of incarceration, thoughts on the potential of abolition and liberation, the need for a multifaceted approach to dismantle carceral systems, her thoughts on those systems' impacts on people, and her work as a singer-songwriter."],"mime_type_tesim":["image/jpeg"],"resource_type_tesim":["Moving image","Text"],"creator_tesim":["Morgan, Dominique"],"creator_ssim":["Morgan, Dominique"],"contributor_tesim":["Beam, Myrl","Billund-Phibbs, Myra","Brenner-Adam, Katherine"],"contributor_ssim":["Beam, Myrl","Billund-Phibbs, Myra","Brenner-Adam, Katherine"],"rights_tesim":["Copyright undetermined"],"publisher_tesim":["University of Minnesota Minneapolis Libraries"],"publisher_ssim":["University of Minnesota Minneapolis Libraries"],"language_tesim":["http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/iso639-2/eng"],"based_near_tesim":["http://www.geonames.org/5074472"],"based_near_ssim":["http://www.geonames.org/5074472"],"isPartOf_ssim":["2b88qc34d"],"isMemberOf_ssim":["vq27zn49p"],"genre_tesim":["Oral Histories","Transcriptions"],"genre_ssim":["Oral Histories","Transcriptions"],"flagged_tesim":["No explicit content"],"lcsh_subject_tesim":["http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2020008921"],"lcsh_subject_ssim":["http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2020008921"],"other_subject_tesim":["Black and Pink","Nebraska Pride","Nebraska Youth Pride"],"other_subject_ssim":["Black and Pink","Nebraska Pride","Nebraska Youth Pride"],"dta_other_subject_tesim":["Black and Pink","Nebraska Pride","Nebraska Youth Pride"],"dta_subject_primary_searchable_tesim":["BIPOC","Black transgender people","LGBTQ+ prisoners","Prison abolition movements","Trans women","Transgender political activists","Black and Pink","Nebraska Pride","Nebraska Youth Pride"],"dta_subject_alt_searchable_tesim":["Transgender women","Transwomen","Trans-women","Transgender Black people","LGBTQ inmates","Prisoners (LGBTQ)","LGBTQ prisoners","Black, Indigenous, and people of color","Black, Indigenous, and people of colour","Anti-prison movements"],"date_start_dtsi":"2021-01-01T00:00:00Z","date_end_dtsi":"2021-01-01T00:00:00Z","date_created_search_ssim":["Jan January 29, 2021"],"is_shown_at_tesim":["https://umedia.lib.umn.edu/item/p16022coll97:237"],"is_shown_at_ssim":["https://umedia.lib.umn.edu/item/p16022coll97:237"],"hosted_elsewhere_ssi":"1","language_label_ssim":["English"],"subject_geojson_facet_ssim":["{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Point\",\"coordinates\":[\"-95.94043\",\"41.25626\"]},\"properties\":{\"placename\":\"Omaha\"}}"],"subject_coordinates_geospatial":["41.25626,-95.94043"],"subject_geographic_hier_ssim":["Nebraska||Douglas County||City of Omaha||Omaha"],"subject_geographic_ssim":["Omaha","Nebraska","Douglas County","City of Omaha","United States"],"subject_geographic_tesim":["Omaha","Nebraska","Douglas County","City of Omaha","United States"],"has_thumbnail_ssi":"true","blacklight_display_ssi":"generic_file","has_file_content_ssi":"true","_version_":1842245181460447232,"timestamp":"2025-09-03T12:18:34.082Z","score":1.0},{"id":"2227mq056","system_create_dtsi":"2024-02-28T15:38:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-03-19T17:57:29Z","date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-02-28T15:38:34Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-28T15:38:34Z","model_ssi":"GenericFile","has_model_ssim":["GenericFile"],"date_created_tesim":["2024-02-28"],"date_created_ssim":["2024-02-28"],"visibility_ssi":"public","new_model_ssi":"GenericObject","dta_all_subject_ssim":["Attitudes of LGBTQ+ people toward police ","FtMs","Gay bars","Gay liberation","Hormone therapy (Gender)","LGBTQ+ support groups","LGBTQ+ visibility","Police","Trans men"],"dta_other_subject_ssim":["Proposition L","Stephan Thorne","White Night Riots"],"dta_homosaurus_subject_ssim":["Attitudes of LGBTQ+ people toward police ","FtMs","Gay bars","Gay liberation","Hormone therapy (Gender)","LGBTQ+ support groups","LGBTQ+ visibility","Police","Trans men"],"date_created_search_tesim":["Aug August 11, 2021"],"date_temporal_search_tesim":["1970","1984","1993","1995","Jan January 1979"],"date_created_display_ssim":["Aug. 11, 2021"],"date_temporal_display_ssim":["1970","1984","1993","1995","Jan. 1979"],"dta_dates_ssim":["2021"],"dta_sortable_date_dtsi":"2021-08-11T00:00:00Z","ident_tesi":"2227mq056","identifier_ssim":["2227mq056"],"collection_name_ssim":["Audio and Video Clips and Transcripts"],"institution_name_ssim":["OUTWORDS"],"primary_institution_ssi":"OUTWORDS","depositor_ssim":["mcintosh.r@northeastern.edu"],"depository_tesim":["mcintosh.r@northeastern.edu"],"title_tesim":["Stephan Thorne Oral History"],"title_ssim":["Stephan Thorne Oral History"],"label_tesim":["Stephan Thorne Oral History"],"description_tesim":["Stephan ‘Steph’ Thorne was born on September 2nd, 1954, in Hillsboro, Oregon. Despite a happy childhood, Steph faced challenges as a closeted transgender man, identifying as a tomboy. In 1979, Steph moved to San Francisco, where he applied to the police department during a period of active recruitment of gay candidates (he identified as a lesbian at the time). At the age of 39, Steph came to realize that he was transgender. In a press conference, he publicly announced his identity, becoming a pioneer for transgender visibility and acceptance. Steph started training the San Francisco police department in transgender community awareness, the world’s first program of its kind. As interest in the training grew, he extended his efforts to other police forces across America."],"mime_type_tesim":["image/jpeg"],"resource_type_tesim":["Moving image"],"creator_tesim":["Thorne,
