Felicia Elizondo, who performed as Felicia Flames, was a Chicana trans woman and drag queen associated with San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood. She was a regular at Gene Compton's Cafeteria at the time of the Compton's Cafeteria Riot, a historic 1966 uprising by trans and queer people. Elizondo performed for many years at Aunt Charlie's Lounge alongside her close friend Vicki Marlane. Although San Francisco had been a sanctuary of free thought and expression for many LGBTQ+ young adults, Jon found the experience to be overwhelming. Sophia moved to Idaho and finally felt safe to dress in women’s clothes in the wilderness. Sophia worked as a librarian at the Challis Public Library, where she faced adversity due to her advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and gender identity, and was eventually fired. Throughout their life, Sophia has been committed to activism, political involvement, and artistic endeavors, always striving for a more inclusive and accepting She founded the Juxtaposed Center for Transformation, Inc., co-founded the Trans Housing Atlanta program (THAP), advised on curriculum development for ‘Law Enforcement and Transgender Community Training’ under the Obama administration, and has participated in many other initiatives. Tracee McDaniel is an inspiring advocate for trans civil rights and in sharing her story, she hopes to use her voice to educate people and to be
