Specifically, this mentions Camille Moran getting a youth advocate award and a short section on her life as a psychiatric abuse survivor. Additionally, there is a Resolution of Appreciation from the Names Project and a couple pictures of Camille with others. Camille Moran was a transgender poet and painter, as well as an activist who works against psychiatric abuse of queer and trans youth. As a six-year-old child in the 1950s, Moran was institutionalized for years because her parents were disturbed by her femininity. She was given electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which left her with headaches, memory loss, learning disability, and seizures. As an adult, Moran advocated for the removal of Gender Identity Disorder from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), on the grounds that the diagnosis could easily lead to similar abuse. Moran was also a member of the San Francisco LGBT Community Center Project Board and served on the Transgender Task Force of the Human Rights Commission. This item comes from the Camille Moran papers at the GLBT Historical Society."],"mime_type_tesim":["image/jpeg"],"resource_type_tesim":["Text"],"rights_tesim":["Copyright undetermined"],"language_tesim":["http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/iso639-2/eng"],"based_near_tesim":["http://www.geonames.org/10630414"],"based_near_ssim":["http://www.geonames.org/10630414"],"isPartOf_ssim":["cf95jb605"],"isMemberOf_ssim":["b91dbe86-4192-4c77-b1fc-d1c323b21c8b"],"genre_tesim":["Ephemera"],"genre_ssim":["Ephemera"],"flagged_tesim":["No explicit content"],"other_subject_tesim":["Community United Against Violence (CUAV)"],"other_subject_ssim":["Community United Against Violence (CUAV)"],"dta_other_subject_tesim":["Community United Against Violence (CUAV)"],"dta_subject_primary_searchable_tesim":["LGBTQ+ youth","Trans women","Transgender people","Community United Against Violence (CUAV)"],"date_start_dtsi":"1993-01-01T00:00:00Z","date_end_dtsi":"2000-01-01T00:00:00Z","date_created_search_ssim":["Aug August 30, 1993 to Dec December 6, 2000"],"is_shown_at_tesim":["https://glbt.i8.dgicloud.com/node/23933"],"is_shown_at_ssim":["https://glbt.i8.dgicloud.com/node/23933"],"hosted_elsewhere_ssi":"1","language_label_ssim":["English"],"subject_geojson_facet_ssim":["{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Point\",\"coordinates\":[\"-122.42349\",\"37.77239\"]},\"properties\":{\"placename\":\"Bay Area\"}}"],"subject_coordinates_geospatial":["37.77239,-122.42349"],"subject_geographic_hier_ssim":["California||Bay Area"],"subject_geographic_ssim":["Bay Area","California","United States"],"subject_geographic_tesim":["Bay Area","California","United States"],"has_thumbnail_ssi":"true","blacklight_display_ssi":"generic_file","has_file_content_ssi":"true","_version_":1855559950147780608,"timestamp":"2026-01-28T11:31:07.008Z","score":1.0},{"id":"xs55mc51k","system_create_dtsi":"2025-11-06T18:02:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-01-07T15:23:33Z","date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-11-06T18:02:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-11-06T18:02:25Z","model_ssi":"GenericFile","has_model_ssim":["GenericFile"],"date_created_tesim":["2025-11-06"],"date_created_ssim":["2025-11-06"],"visibility_ssi":"public","new_model_ssi":"GenericObject","dta_all_subject_ssim":["LGBTQ+ activists","Trans women","Transgender people","Transgender political activists"],"dta_homosaurus_subject_ssim":["LGBTQ+ activists","Trans women","Transgender people","Transgender political activists"],"date_created_search_tesim":["circa 1970 to circa 2000"],"date_created_display_ssim":["circa 1970 to circa 2000"],"dta_dates_ssim":["1970","1971","1972","1973","1974","1975","1976","1977","1978","1979","1980","1981","1982","1983","1984","1985","1986","1987","1988","1989","1990","1991","1992","1993","1994","1995","1996","1997","1998","1999","2000"],"dta_sortable_date_dtsi":"1985-01-01T00:00:00Z","ident_tesi":"xs55mc51k","identifier_ssim":["xs55mc51k"],"collection_name_ssim":["Denise D'Anne Collection"],"institution_name_ssim":["GLBT Historical Society"],"primary_institution_ssi":"GLBT Historical Society","depositor_ssim":["i.fellman@northeastern.edu"],"depository_tesim":["i.fellman@northeastern.edu"],"title_tesim":["Denise D'Anne photoshoot [001]"],"title_ssim":["Denise D'Anne photoshoot [001]"],"label_tesim":["Denise D'Anne photoshoot [001]"],"description_tesim":["Denise D'Anne dressed up for a photoshoot, wearing a big, fluffy hat, dangling earrings, and a low, spiky necklace. In this oral history interview with Macalester College students Ubah Abdullahi, Daria Chamness, and Andi Haus, LaBelle discusses her upbringing in Somalia during its civil war and experiences of migration to Ethiopia, Kenya, and the United States, her work with BLMP, BTMU, and as an advocate for Black trans migrants and Somali trans people, the difficulty and necessity of her visibility as a Somali trans woman and the impact of that visibility on the next generation of Somali trans and gender nonconforming people, the invisibilization of Black migrants in mainstream discussions around
