Through organizing there, Geleni became involved in the early NYC trans group the Metropolitan Gender Network, where they were inspired by Les Feinberg, Sylvia Rivera and Imani Henry. Gia also describes how becoming involved with competitive debate helped her get out of special education classes, and her violent rebelliousness as a child developed as a defense against
