Aiyyana Maracle (1950-2016) was a Haudenosaunee artist, educator, and storyteller. Maracle was born on the Six Nations territory in southern Ontario, grew up in upstate New York, spent time across Canadian provinces, and returned to Six Nations later in life. A self-described “transformed woman who loves women,” Maracle used the power of performance to explore gender fluidity and Indigeneity through art. Her multidisciplinary work encourages viewers to rethink gender and sexuality through a decolonial lens, as she worked to bring Ogwehoweh art and knowledge into a dialogue with a Eurocentric world. This collection includes twelve videos of Maracle’s performances, interviews, readings, and conversations with other artists.
